About Spanish55

We began Spanish55 in 2014 with a firm belief that education, and in particular, language education can change lives.

The number “55” comes from the duration of our lessons. You will be working with a highly-qualified native Spanish speaker, one-on-one, for 55 minutes.

We use the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), a formal guide that different language-teaching programs use to design content. It is an international standard for describing ability and defines the levels of linguistic language proficiency. This unifies the knowledge and skills to be developed to facilitate the comparison between different educational systems and the equivalence of their certificates.

Our coaches are highly-qualified professionals from Spanish-speaking countries who are 100% proficient in the English language. Each coach possesses a unique background and extensive experience, enabling them to personalize lesson plans according to each student's specific interests. In addition, we provide ongoing professional training.

Consultation Call

It’s normal to feel a little anxious. Our Consultation Call is the perfect opportunity for us to get to know you and for you to get to know your future coach, no strings attached. It will be a stress-free experience where you’ll talk to your Coach, and he/she will evaluate your current level and determine how you will be able to accomplish your goal. You will be able to see the materials and get an overall review of how your lessons will be.

In the 55- minute Skype consultation you will:
1. Meet your coach and see if she/he is a good fit for your goals and objectives
2. Discover your current Spanish level
3. Look at the materials you will be working with
4. Be able to share with your coach what you want to accomplish
5. Receive guidance from your coach. She/He will give you an estimate on how long it will take you to reach your goal.
We want you to feel comfortable with your coach before making any decisions.

The student portal is each student’s account. It gives full visibility to subscription options, tutor availability in real-time, scheduling arrangements, and payment processing.

The student portal supports all major browsers including: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer.

Yes, you may access your student portal account using any browser on your mobile device.

Active/Inactive status

Maintaining an "active" status as a student involves constant lesson scheduling within your chosen subscription or lesson package period. Being an active student allows you to make steady progress toward your goals, benefiting from continuity with your coach and maximizing the value of your subscription or lesson package.

We understand that sometimes life happens, and we appreciate and encourage open communication. If you find yourself needing a short break, just give your coach a heads-up and reach out to our Student Success team (success@spanish55.com). Taking a temporary break means you can freeze your lesson credits for up to 3 months, giving you the possibility to use them when you're ready to come back. You will continue with “Active” student status for the duration of your requested break which means we'll do our best to keep you with your current coach, though we can't guarantee that your preferred time slot will still be available upon your return.

If you require an extension for your break, we kindly request that you maintain ongoing communication with us. We would be pleased to accommodate any extension you may need. Failure to notify Spanish55 of your planned break will result in the expiration of any remaining lesson credits within 30 days of the expiration date of your last subscription cycle or lesson package.

You have the right to completely cancel your subscription or lesson packages at any time. Please note that selecting "Cancel recurring payment" for a subscription inside your student portal won't cancel your lessons or progress. This action solely stops your subscription from renewing automatically and any remaining lesson credits will stay available until the current cycle expires. To officially receive "Inactive" status and discontinue classes altogether, please inform your coach and reach out to the Student Success team. They will assist you in updating your status accordingly.

To stay connected and support your language journey, if we haven't heard from you in four weeks, we'll respectfully mark your status as inactive and remove you from your coach's schedule and student roster. We always welcome you back, though we cannot guarantee the availability of your desired coach and/or time slot.

Unused lesson credits from your last cycle may be eligible for a refund if you submit the refund request form within 30 days of your cycle’s expiration date. We aim to ensure you receive value for your investment, so we encourage you to maintain open communication with our Student Success team (success@spanish55.com) for any questions or concerns.

Yay! We love having you back. Once you’re ready to resume your lessons, please write to our Student Success team so that they can help you make any adjustments necessary in your billing cycle or available lesson credits. In addition they will help you verify that your coach is ready to receive you. If necessary, they will help you schedule a complimentary consultation call with a new coach.

Learning Material

Once you begin your Spanish-learning journey, your coach will show you the material that will be used in your lessons. Please note that all material has been previously approved by the Head of our Academic Product Department.

You may find the books suggested by your coach on www.blinklearning.com. You will be able to access them at any time.

If you would like to purchase your own set of books, whether digital or physical, you may do so, but it is not obligatory.

If you are a student, you may request the login credential for Blinklearning to your coach or our Student Success team (success@spanish55.com)

Being as immersed as possible in Spanish is one of the best ways to progress. We have a YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/Spanish55) where you can find numerous videos created by our dedicated Ambassadors. You’ll be able to not only find videos on grammatical aspects, but also tips on traveling to Spanish-speaking countries, music and movie recommendations, and tips on increasing fluency.

Technical Issues

We understand that technical issues can sometimes impact your experience.

If your lesson doesn't go as smoothly due to video call complications on the coach's end, we'll promptly return the lesson credit to your account for rescheduling. If the affected lesson credit can't be used in the current cycle, don't worry – it can have its expiration extended.

Should you encounter technical difficulties on your end that hinder your optimal learning experience, your coach will get in touch with you soon. Additionally, we reserve the right to request a screenshot of your internet speed from https://www.broadbandsearch.net/speed-test. Feel free to reach out to our Student Success team (success@spanish55.com) who can assist you in running tests and finding solutions to ensure smooth progress in your lessons.

Certificates

We love acknowledging our students’ dedication. Once you have successfully completed a Spanish level as described by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), your coach will inform our Student Success team. They will promptly send you your certificate of level completion.

As of 2024, our students will begin to receive certificates of achievement upon reaching certain milestones: 50, 100, 150, etc lessons.

Booking lessons

NOTE: You must enroll in a subscription plan or purchase a lesson package before scheduling lessons.

Once you’re logged in to your student portal and have an active subscription, go ahead and click on the “Book Your Lessons Here” button.
Select your coach
Find and select the date and time that works for you from the calendar shown.

VERY IMPORTANT: Click on the green “Click to confirm booking” button to confirm your selection. If you are ready to book a few Spanish lessons for the coming days or weeks, click “Add more bookings”. It is highly advisable to book at least 2 weeks in advance. To see upcoming availability, click the “Next Week” arrow above the scheduler. You must always complete the booking process by clicking on the green “Click to confirm booking” button.,

You can book your lesson with minimum 18 hours in advance.

Absolutely! It is important to make Spanish lessons part of your weekly routine. By planning, you and your coach will stay organized and on track, and you will secure your preferred lesson time slots.

If you are on a monthly subscription plan, you will be allowed to book your lessons 28 days in advance, as long as you stay within your billing cycle.

Quarterly subscription plans and lesson packages can book lessons 3 months out, as long as you stay within your billing cycle.

We highly recommend that all your lessons be booked with your same coach. Your coach has all the information regarding your progress and goals and is able to tailor each lesson for you. In addition, you create a bond where your coach understands how you best learn and what motivates you, as well as provides a safe and trusting environment. .

However, if you feel like you would like to try lessons with a different coach, please reach out to our Student Success team (success@Spanish55.com) before changing your Coach. They will help you transition to one that is a better fit for you.

If our Student Success team booked your lessons for you, your reminder will be sent in Pacific Time since our system is under that time zone. Rest assured, though, that your lesson is booked at your requested time.

There are times when our web browsers update and our active sessions on different platforms expire. To make sure that you are still logged in, please go to the top right corner of the student portal. If you are logged in, you will see the icon of a person. If you are not logged in, you will see a door. If the door appears, please click on it and log in.

We’re delighted that you’ve been using all of your lesson credits. This means you are truly committed to learning Spanish. We recommend that you renew your plan in advance and consider upgrading to one with more lesson credits per billing cycle in order for your lessons to continue without interruptions.

Yes, if, for example, your billing cycle ends on Apr 25, 2024 and you want to book your remaining lesson credit from that cycle on that day, you may do so.

Yes, you’re free to adjust your lesson credits with your billing cycle as you see fit. If, for example, you bought a THREE monthly plan, this means that you’re taking three lessons per week. However, let’s imagine you had a rough week on Week #2 and were just able to fit in one lesson that week. So on Weeks 3 + 4, if you have availability, you can book four lessons with your coach, so that you use your lesson credits before their expiration date.

Canceling lessons

Go to “My Bookings” on the top menu inside your Student Portal.
1. Upcoming lessons are displayed under “Upcoming bookings.”
2. Click Cancel on your appointment(s) you wish to cancel.
3. Your lesson credit is automatically returned to your account.
4. We value your time, and we hope you value ours too. We kindly ask that you cancel or reschedule at least 12 hours before your booking. If you are not able to do so for any extraordinary circumstances, please contact us at success@spanish55.com

Our system will disable the Cancel button automatically 12 hours before your lesson.

In the event of an emergency (accident, tragic event, weather, major illness or medical procedure) on your part or the coach/Spanish55, the affected lesson(s) will be canceled, and the lesson credit will be returned to your account. If the affected lesson credit cannot be used in the current cycle, an extension of the expiration period may be granted. Under these circumstances, you're more than welcome to ask for an extension for your credits by simply requesting it to Student Success and completing the necessary documentation.

Any situation should be reported to our Student Success team as soon as possible, we will be happy to help any way possible (success@Spanish55.com).

Life can be unpredictable, and we get that. If you can't make it to a confirmed lesson, with or without notice, and it's not an emergency, please contact our Student Success team (success@Spanish55.com). They will notify your coach. Please expect communication from your coach soon. Be advised that your lesson credit will not be returned, and your coach will be paid in full for the lesson.

If you're running late to your confirmed lesson your coach will be waiting for you. He/She will happily cover the remaining time of the 55-minute lesson at your arrival. Take all necessary precautions to start your lessons on time, this will always work in your favor.

There are no fees to cancel a lesson. If you cancel with 12+ hours to go or have informed the Student Success team of an emergency, your lesson credit will be returned to your account. However, if you need to cancel with less than 12 hours to go, for any other reason, your coach will get in touch with you. In this case, you will not receive your lesson credit back and your coach will get paid in full.

NOTE: Under our terms and conditions, our system will only allow you to cancel or reschedule 12+ hours before your lesson.

Rescheduling lessons

There is no 'reschedule' option inside your student portal, please cancel your upcoming lesson. The lesson credit will immediately be returned to your account and will be available for a new lesson booking. You must reschedule for a date within your current billing cycle.

Yes, your coach will receive an automated email notification as soon as you make changes to your schedule.

Purchase lessons

All lessons are paid in advance. You must enroll in a subscription plan or purchase a lesson package before scheduling lessons

The monthly subscription plan grants you the right to schedule and take lessons in monthly intervals. This plan is renewed every four (4) weeks.

When you decide to begin your coaching with Spanish55, you can choose one of the following plans based on your schedule availability, budget, and, of course, your Coach’s recommendation:

It is important for you to use all the available lesson credits during your monthly cycle. After the four (4) weeks of the cycle pass, the plan will be automatically renewed, and the number of lesson credits will be reset. You will not be allowed to use any remaining lesson credits in a new cycle. The monthly subscription plan will not allow you to schedule lessons outside the current cycle period, meaning outside the four (4) weeks that make up the cycle.

The Quarterly subscription plan grants you the right to schedule and take lessons in 3-month intervals while also benefiting from a lower cost per lesson. This plan is renewed every twelve (12) weeks.

When you decide to begin your coaching with Spanish55, you can choose one of the following plans based on your schedule availability, budget, and, of course, your Coach’s recommendation:

If you anticipate planned breaks in your schedule and you need lesson credits with a longer expiration period, we offer lesson packages that will provide you with greater flexibility in booking. We encourage you to maintain your regular lesson frequency to ensure you stay on track and avoid falling behind.

20-lesson package: valid for 24 weeks
50-lesson package: valid for 52 weeks
100-lesson package: valid for 104 weeks

When you purchase your plan or lesson package, your account is credited with lesson credits. 1 lesson credit = 1 55-minute lesson

We love the idea of giving Spanish lessons. While we do not have digital gift cards, we can definitely make it happen. Please get in touch with our Student Success team (success@spanish55.com) so that they can share with you the Paypal link and the process to do so.

Payment methods

You can pay for your lessons with any major credit or debit card inside your student portal.

Your payments are processed using the most secure payment processors available. Stripe exceeds the most stringent security standards, it is SSL Protected, and PCI Compliant. Stripe is a PCI Service Provider Level 1 which is the highest grade of payment processing security.

No, there are no fees for students. Fees are paid by Spanish55 directly to the credit card processing company.

To keep your credit card information confidential, the Student Success team does not have access to this information. To change your payment method, you will need to cancel the recurring payment on your current plan. Afterward, select the new plan that you wish to purchase. You will be asked to enter your credit card information. Please enter the information on the card that you wish to use.

Refunds and records
